Beauty Essentials when Traveling – Makeup

In my previous post, I talked about what skincare to carry when on holiday. Welcome to the makeup edition!

I usually favor the multitaskers for holidays. I like to look effortless yet chic on holiday. So, these are the products I will carry with me on holiday.face

Primer

My #rideordie: Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer. It’s reliable and I need it to control my shiny t-zone, which tends to go crazy when it gets warm!

Foundation

Milani Conceal and Perfect 2 in 1 foundation in Tan. This foundation has great coverage but is a bit dark for me in winter; it’s my perfect shade of foundation for summer. I tan easily and this one got me covered Perfectly. Literally. It’s in the name.

Powder

Oily t-zone + warm weather = foundation meltdown. I need some powder to set it and delay the inevitable. This translucent prefer by Revlon works well for me and I don’t need to worry about colour matching.

Highlight

The name of this highlight is Dim light and gives a very subtle glow. So subtle in fact that on my skin, you actually don’t see it. I sometimes use it all over my face to set my foundation. It was an impulse purchase from Mecca Cosmetics because #FOMO. I was in the queue ready to pay and the bright lights and loud music in the store got me all confused and I just picked up the mini highlight on a whim. Do I regret it? A little bit. I probably should have selected the full sized product with the more pronounced shade for my skintone.

Eyes and Cheeks

Like I mentioned earlier, I like to use multitaskers when on holiday. Which means I carry an eye and cheeks palette on the go. Without a doubt, that would have to be my Sleek palettes; but the question begs: which one do I go for? Do I go for sultry and mysterious? When traveling to an unknown place, sure! When traveling to visit family (which is what this holiday is all about), I’d most likely choose the minimalist (All Day Soiree). This is a tough one. The packaging for both eye and cheeks palettes are super slim, that it wouldn’t be too much to carry both on the flight. The realist in me says that I have to pick one and the kid in me asks in the all to familiar whiny voice “but…but….whyyyy???”.

I think I know the answer to this one. It will have to be the All Day Soiree. The highlight on it is perfect for that effortless glow and I will look bright eyed and bushy tailed for what the day may throw at me. Just to change things up, I have also carried my w7 cream stick eyeshadow in Latte. This eyeshadow has a greasy sort of feel and moves a lot so I need to use my Keep A Lid On It primer from The Balm cosmetics to keep it in place.

Liner, Brow and Mascara

My motto is “one doesn’t just walk outside without a hint of liner on“. Well, it’s not really my motto, but it sums it up pretty nicely. I can’t do without my liner. My go to will have to be my Bobbi Brown Kajal liner in Black Coffee. Perfect for a smudgy lived in look, or made simple with a swipe in just the waterline.

Also, in the interest of testing stuff, my Milani Kohl liner also made it through. It’s a bit stiff as compared to the Bobbi Brown Kajal liner and I think it would be perfect for lining over the lids.  I will also take a coloured liner – my Australis gelifeye liner in Apple Soda and my Bourjois Waterproof Clubbing liner in Bleu Neon – with me because why the heck not?! Let’s liven up this party!

For those real dramatic moments, I’m relying on my Elizabeth Arden beautiful liquid liner to keep me in line.

For mascara, I’ve carried my Milani Lash Trifecta mascara. Curls well and easy to remove, I’m still experimenting with this product. So, it will be a great test to see how it holds up with the heat and humidity. Plus I don’t like to have too many mascaras open at the one time. At the moment, I’ve got three mascaras going and that in itself is too much for me.

I am supremely low maintenance when it comes to brows. I’ve tried the Brow liners and the gels and the powders. For me, a simple swipe with the clear brow gel from Milani tames the beast and makes my brows look less angry / surprised and more natural.lips

Lips

My original plan was to carry two Lipsticks – a deeper shade for evening and a nude one for the day. But scratch that! I’m carrying my L’Oréal Infallible Matte Max Lip Pens004 Oops I Pink It Again, 008 I Gotta Feeling and my new addition 007 Say My Name. Seriously. Love the formula of these lipsticks. Lightweight, long lasting and feels like nothing. Plus my lip liners from E.L.F. in Ruby and Berry. And a last minute addition – my Milani lipstick in Ruby Valentine. A great combination of red and pink, its perfect for summer.

My lips are constantly chapped from years of lip biting (a trait I have when I’m deep in thought), so I’ve carried my Benebalm by Benefit to remedy that.

So that’s my makeup for my travel kit. Now Mr Lubz, when does the taxi arrive?
