Review: Murad Skincare Range

Have you ever had that moment – that moment when you find something that just clicks – that gets you, knows what just works!

Yes, well – I may just have found a little gem – and possibly that proverbial holy grail if you will. Intrigued? Well, read on my friends…. you wont be disappointed.

Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser (Step 1)

RRP: A$62 (200ml)

According to the website, this cleanser:

Polishes away dullness and excess cellular debris, priming skin for treatment products.
Reveals a smoother texture and more even toned complexion without irritation

How to use: Dampen your face and neck (not going to use the word “moist” that the internet hates so much. Massage a small amount onto the skin. Rinse and pat dry. Follow with a Step 2.

This is an AHA/BHA cleanser. It’s got little granules of product that help exfoliate the roughness and texture of the skin. When I used it for the first few times, it tingled and stung a little bit – to be honest, I was so keen to try everything out, that I didn’t even wait to read all the instructions on the back of the tube.

There is a caution – avoid the eye area and do not use on irritated skin. The last thing your irritated skin needs is more angst. So leave that for the holidays, bad bosses and family get-togethers haha.

Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum (Step 2)

RRP: A$153 (30ml)

According to the site, this serum helps to:

Improve brightness, clarity and radiance

Protect skin against environmental aggressors

Reverse Visible Signs of environmental damage

How to use: Every day after cleansing and toning, massage a thin layer over face, neck and chest. For optimal results, wait one minute for maximum absorption then follow with moisturiser and sunscreen.

This is a lightweight serum that smooths on to the skin easily. It has a light scent to it, but nothing that is too overwhelming. I do notice a slight difference to the overall tone of my skin when I use the serum. But its too slight to be like “hey, my skin is magical”!

I find reviewing serums to be a tricky thing – with makeup, it’s easy. For instance – the colour wasn’t right, the texture felt goopy – you know it. But with something like a serum, especially with claims of improved brightness, radiance, etc, it usually takes a longer time of trials and testing to be able to give a definitive answer. I will keep at it, so follow me on the Socials for updates.

Murad Blemish Rapid Relief Spot Treatment (Step 2)

RRP: A$32 (15ml)

Ever have that situation arise – a big date, that important presentation, a red carpet event? And a ginormous zit shows up (yep – Murphy’s law is at play here). Yes, I think it’s fair to say we’ve all been there my friend.

The Murad site claims:

Instant on-the-spot treatment for active breakouts

Healing stubborn blemishes

Minimising future breakouts

How to use: Apply a dot of product to the affected areas after cleaner and toner.

To be honest, when I saw the claims on this product, I was a bit skeptical. I had a big presentation, and of course, a giant throbbing zit decided to join me in on the event at work. In other words, I had nothing to lose. So, I gave it a go.

I started using it when I could feel the zit build up under the surface of my skin. So UI used it twice a day for two days leading up to the event. And you know what – it totally freaking worked. After the first day of use, the zit, which had grown to this angry looking bubble on my chin had halved in size. And after the second day of use, my chin was almost back to normal. Even better is that the zit didn’t actually erupt through. Definitely a keeper for when the going gets tough.

Murad Rapid Resurfacing Peel Wipes (Step 2)

RRP: A$83 (16 wipes)

Now we’re on to my absolute favourite product of this range! THIS is the product that has me shook!

On the website:

Experience Dr. Murad’s renowned glycolic anti-ageing treatment at home. This extra-strength peel helps reverse signs of ageing and detoxify skin. A powerful blend of 10% Glycolic Acid and Vitamin C instantly retexturizes skin, enhances radiance, and evens tone without irritation. Textured towelettes allow for targeted application of active ingredients and removal of surface cells exposed to toxic pollutants that have accumulated throughout the day.

How to use: Swipe towelette over clean face, neck and chest. Allow 3 minutes for full absorption. Do not rinse. Follow with a moisturiser. Use 2 to 3 times weekly.

I used this product twice a week for 4 weeks. I will admit, it took me about 4 uses before I could see any difference and when I did – whoooooo – it was a beaut! Imagine waking up to baby soft skin, smooth and clear – like a Disney Princess (Princess Jasmine right here!). That’s what I woke up to one day and I was not only surprised, I couldn’t stop touching my face – it was sooo soft!

If I remember correctly, the first couple of times using this product, I experienced some tingling – especially with irritated and broken skin (aka scratches / burst zits). And you gotta wait a couple of minutes for the product to seep into your skin; key is not to rinse off.

Murad City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturiser (Step 3)

RRP: A$105 (50gm)

The claims on the Murad site for this product are:

Detoxify and revitalise skin overnight. This breakthrough formula, with super-charged antioxidants from Marrubium Plant Stem Cells, neutralises pollutants and strengthens skin’s barrier while you sleep. Next Generation Vitamin C helps brighten and even tone, while nourishing botanicals plump skin to help visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Wake up to radiant, healthy-looking skin.

How to use: Use after cleansing and toner. Apply a thin layer over face, neck and décolletage in the evening.

This moisturiser is an interesting one. You know how some moisturisers are so thick, they feel heavy on your skin. And some are refreshingly light – sometimes to the point where you question if it is a lotion or a moisturiser. This does not fall in either of the buckets. It falls somewhere in the middle with an almost gel-like feel.

The moisturiser leaves a slight residue on the skin and I think it’s fine, especially if it is meant to detox the skin overnight. I don’t mean to say that it leaves the skin feeling tacky (which I don’t mind at all, actually) – there’s just enough of a residue to slowly absorb into the skin. It contains Vit C, a popular ingredient for skin brightening. And also, the moisturiser has this light citrus scent to it and it smells so refreshing.

What most excites me about this product is the container and the “pump”. It is this press action pump with a hole in the middle to allow product to seep through. And it is a measured amount every single time. This means that the quality of the product is not compromised by air and bacteria. It is quite cool to be honest.

Overall Thoughts

It’s finally up folks – I’ve been talking about the Murad range for a looong time on the Socials. It was about time that I posted an in-depth review of the products on the blog. And I wanted to do it in a way that didn’t sound like a walking advertisement. I truly LOVE and live for the Rapid Resurfacing Peel wipes – they are my sincere favourite skincare product for 2017.

Murad have broken down their collection into Steps and each Step has a range of products to choose from. You can buy the range from the Murad website (click here) or at Sephora.

Have you used anything from the Murad Range? Would you try the Rapid Resurfacing Peel wipes?

These products were provided as PR Samples. This does not sway my review and my opinions are based on my experience using these products.
