Winter: My Essentials to Save My Skin

Winter is well and truly here. In Melbourne, we have been experiencing some incredibly cold nights that seem to continue into the days. I’m currently huddled under two blankets as I write this post.

As can be expected, I have the heater running on high. Which means my skin now resembles a dried prune. I’m talking scaly, dry skin with flaky patches. (Gorgeous I know!)

I have compiled a list of my essentials to combat the harsh effects of winter.

I used to be of the opinion that a soap is a soap is a soap. And if I could feel squeaky clean skin, it was the best thing. Never mind that my skin was dry as ever after that (cringe!). Now, older and a little bit wiser, I’m a lot more discerning about my products. Gone are the “one size fits all” attitude I used to have with bodywashes. I now look for products without SLS, and cleansers that strip the skin off it’s natural oils. My latest fave is the Kosmea rose glow body wash, which just smells absolutely divine (think of a luxurious bath filled with rose petals). I also love the smooth feeling that the McArthur Skincare bodywash gives you after a shower. Your skin feels nourished and comforted like you’re enveloped with beautiful little bubbles from the outside harsh weather.

Harsh winter calls for a bigger arsenal of moisture. I’m talking the big guns.

I have mild eczema, which tends to flare up when winter hits and the dry skin gets patched. So I’ve been using and absolutely loving the Bioderma Atoderm Body Moisturiser. A ginormous bottle, this is going to last me a while. It feels like a cross between a gel and Vaseline. It goes on smoothly, but absorbs so well onto the skin.

Another moisturiser I’ve been using is the Redwin Sorbolene Moisturiser. It is a lot thicker as compared to the Bioderma, but feels just as comforting on the skin.

You will always find a body moisturiser on my bedside table to top up my skin just before bed.

Let’s Get Handsybioderma atoderm handcream essano sweet pea handcream

Hands up if you’re a hand cream junkie (*raises hand*). I have a couple floating around everywhere – my desk at work, my handbag, even my car! My home in itself has more than 1 hand cream going on rotation. So you must think that I’ve got the world’s softest hands. Sadly, that is not the case. Hand care neglect has resulted in dry cracked skin, which is quite painful if you haven’t experienced it. My condition of my hands are improving with constant TLC.
