GRWM: Everyday 10 Minute Makeup

Hey everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve done a get ready with me. To be honest, I actually missed it.

Today’s look is all about a quick and easy look – if you’re a mum (I know how it is, especially with a toddler clinging to your pyjama leg trying to grab everything in sight), or someone whose alarm didn’t go off or you’ve hit the snooze button one too many times. You know, that time when you’ve literally got 10 minutes to look presentable and not like crazy cat lady (unless that’s your look, in which case, you do you!).

Let’s assume that you’ve cleansed & moisturized your face and its ready for the next step. Now, while I usually block my posts by area of the face (e.g. eyes, cheeks, etc), I’m literally going to do this one by the steps I take (and every move I make, every single day…Ahem, I digress again).

Step 1:

I’m using sunscreen as my base. The one I’m using is my Eco Natural Sun sunscreen by The Face Shop. This is 50+ sunscreen with an oil blotting, mattifying effect. I like this because it helps keep my oily t-zone at bay. Apply a liberal amount to your skin and really rub it in.

Step 2:

Grab your eyeshadow, I’m using my Gilded Cage Revelation Eyeshadow in the shade Rose Gold. This is a cream eyeshadow that doesnt budge once it sets. Apply a dot to the centre of your lid and using your fingers, smooth all over.

Step 3:

Line your eyes with a pencil – I’m usually one who needs a little bit of liner even if it is in the waterline. I’m using the Lakme kohl liner.

Step 4:

Using the Rimmel Brow This Way Styling gel, comb through your brows. The gel will help keep the brows tamed through the day.

Step 5:

Going back to your face, apply concealer where required – under the eyes if you’re a permanently exhausted pigeon like me.

Step 6:

Set with powder. I’m using the NYX Cosmetics #nofilter powder. This will help combat the white cast that sunscreen gives me (#firstworldproblems).

Step 7:

I need colour on my face else with sunscreen on, I tend to look anemic. So, grabbing the Maybelline studio NY brick bronzer palette and my Real Techniques contour brush, I apply the contour to the hollows of my face. Using the same brush, dip into the illuminating blush and apply to the apples of your cheeks. This gives you the warmth of your bronzer and the slight illumination and colour of the blush.

Step 8:

Curl your lashes and apply mascara. I’m using my current favourite – my Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir volumising mascara. I usually wait a bit after applying liner in order to let it settle down, otherwise the curler tends to pull off product, thereby making me have to redo it again.

Step 9:

Don’t forget lips! For a simple day look, I’m using the Aisa Cosmetics matte-netic lipstick on the shade Devotion. This is a wonderful watermelon pink shade that lasts a pretty decent amount of time.

And there you have it folks. A 10 minute makeup look that takes less than 10 steps. You can add or remove steps and tailor it to what you find comfortable in 10 minutes.

To add to this, I’m giving you a couple of tips to help make your 10 minutes have an impact.

1. Organise your makeup in a little pouch or on an easily accessible corner of the table.

2. I tend to use the same makeup look throughout the working week. Which saves me from scrambling everytime I need to apply makeup in the morning.

3. While you’re waiting for stuff to dry e.g. liquid liner or cream eyeshadow, switch on to the next step. Keep moving.

4. Grab multitasking products / palettes. A bronzer makes a great eyeshadow. Some lipsticks can work as blush too. Or use a cream blush as a lippie.

5. Don’t attempt new fangled techniques when you’re in a time crunch; leave that for when you have the time to experiment and clean up if it goes awry.

6. Lastly, don’t be too hard on yourself. Embrace the blemishes and the pigmentation spots. I’ve been there. I grew up with pigmentation and zits and blemishes (and I still have them). And you know what, I survived the days.

Hope this was helpful for you. Do you go minimal for work/school?
