My first real introduction to Dior makeup was when I attended the Dior Masterclass for the Architects of Beauty event held at Highpoint Shopping Center in March this year.
At the Masterclass, we were taken through the steps to achieve the signature Light of Gold look that the ethereal Charlize Theron wore for the Jadore perfume advert. At the end of the 45 minute class, we were given the opportunity to replicate the look and make it our own using the products showcased. We were also gifted a mini 5 Couleur eyeshadow palette, which was totally unexpected (and insanely exciting – a Dior mini palette? Yes please!!)
I loved all the products that were showcased in the class, but two products stood out for me – the 5 Couleur Designer palette in Amber Design and the Diorskin Nude Shimmer in Amber.
The 5 Couleur Designer palette comes with 4 eyeshadows and a dark brown gel liner. It also includes a generous sized mirror and the tools to apply the products to your eyes – a double ended foam tip applicator and a double ended brush applicator.
In the palette, the shimmer shade caught my eye. In the pan, it looks like a creamy shade with shimmer particles in it, but when applied, it does not have its own shade; rather it’s pure shimmer that makes your eyes catch the light and brighten your look. The shimmer is quite subtle and not obnoxious on the lids. If you want more of a statement, you can layer it on, or even apply it with a wet brush to intensify the shimmer.
The mini palette comes with 5 teeny tiny shadows and no liner. I love! Sooo teeny tiny!!! I use it for my go-to everyday look. The neutral shades are perfect for that subtle smokey eye. Pair it with a nude lip colour for a “girl next door” look or amp it up with a stunning red lip (I love to pair it with Urban Decay matte lipstick in Bad Blood).
The shadows are incredibly smooth, pigmented and blend well. You don’t have to spend a long time blending your shadows. The selection of colours within the palette can be worn on their own or blended to create a beautiful smokey eye.
I loved the mini palette that I received as a gift so much that when Strawberrynet had a sale on Dior products, I quickly jumped at the chance to score myself another Dior keepsake. This time, I purchased the Dior 5 Couleur palette in Jardin. This palette came with 5 shadows and no liner and this was fine by me because, it’s one more gorgeous Dior eyeshadow colour (who would want to pass that up?).
The Jardin has two pure shimmer shades and three sheens. The deep blue/teal looked a bit intimidating to me, but once applied in layers, it gives off the most surreal mix of blue and teal that I’d ever seen. I’ve used this particular shade for work and I usually opt for the basic neutral colours for work. I love wearing the green shades – the olive green shadow in the centre of the palette is great for my tan skin tone, but would really *pop* on people with lighter skin tones too.
This particular look was achieved using the olive green eyeshadow in the centre, the blue shade in the outer corner and the green shimmer on the lids. Check out that blend job. I hardly spent any time blending the shadows – I used the Real Techniques eyeshadow blending brush for this and the buttery quality of the shadow gives you that super smooth, Instagram worthy #eyesonfleek result. No retouching was done on this photo – the result speaks about the quality of the shadows in the palette.
I love the palette and would recommend that everyone have at least one Dior product in their life – an eyeshadow palette is perfect to have in your collection as you can use it to achieve multiple looks – for instance, it can be tailored for a lovely chat and catch up with friends over coffee (or Chai) and croissants as well as amped up for a social gathering or event in the evening.
